Ibn al-Athir wrote:
In that year (396H), at the New Moon of (the month) Shu’ban,
a large star similar to Venus appeared to the left side of the Qibla (ke arah kota Mekah) of Iraq.
Its rays on the Earth were like the rays of the Moon,
and it remained until the middle of (the month) Dhü al-Qa’da
when it disappeared.
